On May 22nd 2001 Ant Farm officially dropped ‘Smooth Criminal’ as their 2nd single from Anthology. As it started to gain traction on US airways no one could have predicted what would happen in the summer of that year. AAF became a household name over night, you could not escape the raucous MJ cover. It was in constant rotation across the globe and became a massive hit for the band.

Fast forward 25 years, yes a quarter of a century and the song has aged like a fine wine becoming iconic status. People even calling it better than the original I mean damn, Michael himself gave it the seal of approval. I love how people are still finding the song to this day and instantly loving it as soon as they hear it. For a song that was released pre-streaming it has definitely stood the test of time. Whole new generations are becoming fans of the band after finding reaction videos online and the song going viral during covid. Yes times have changed but what is apparent ‘Smooth Criminal’ Ant Farm style is here to stay and lets keep talking about it till the 50th Anniversary.
